You can apply for citizenship:
- You have been a legal permanent resident for the past 5 years; or
- You have been a legal permanent resident for the last 3 years, you have been married to a U.S. citizen for those 3 years, and you continue to be married to that U.S. citizen;
- You are a lawful permanent resident and your parents are U.S. citizens;
- You have a military service record that qualifies you to become a citizen.
Children under 18 years of age may automatically become citizens when their parents become citizens. Please check with your local INS office for details.
